朝7時
いつもの朝のお仕事
お片付けと掃き掃除
から始めるの
床が全部
綺麗になるまでね
磨いて、ワックスを塗り
お洗濯をする
モップでピカピカに
もう一度掃くのよ
そこまでで
だいたい7時15分ね

それから
本を1冊読もうかしら
それとも2冊、3冊？
ちょっと私のギャラリーに
お絵かきを
付け加えるの
ギターを弾いて
編み物をして
それからお料理でも
ずっと思うのよ
いつ私の生活は始まるの？

お昼ごはんの後
パズルをして
ダーツをしてお菓子を作り
折り紙遊びね
少しだけバレエとチェスも
陶芸と腹話術もやるし
ロウソク作りだって
それから運動して
時々スケッチも
クライミングもするし
ドレスも縫うのよ！

それからね
時間が余ったら
本を読み返すの
壁にもう少しだけ
絵を描くわ
どこかに隙間が
残ってるはずよね
それから
髪の毛を
ブラシしてブラシして
ブラシしてブラシするのよ
私がいつもいる
同じ場所に閉じこもって

それから私はずっと
考えて考えて
考えて考えるの
いつ私の生活は始まるの？

明日の朝は
光が見えるはず
私の誕生日に
毎年見えるのよ
あれは何なのかしら
どこから飛んでくるの？
私はもう成長したし
お母さんも多分、私を
外へ行かせてくれる…

7 AM,
the usual morning lineup
Start on the chores
and sweep
‘til the floor’s
all clean
Polish and wax
do laundry
and mop and shine up
Sweep again
and by then
it’s like 7:15.

And so
I’ll read a book
Or maybe two or three
I’ll add
a few new paintings
to my gallery
I’ll play guitar
and knit
And cook and basically
Just wonder
when will my life begin?

Then after lunch
it’s puzzles and
darts and baking
Paper mache,
a bit of ballet and chess
Pottery and ventriloquy,
candle making
Then I’ll stretch
maybe sketch
take a climb,
Sew a dress!

And
I’ll reread the books
If I have time to spare
I’ll paint
the walls some more,
I’m sure
there’s room somewhere.
And then
I’ll brush and brush,
and brush and brush
my hair
Stuck in the same place
I’ve always been.

And I’ll keep
wonderin’ and wonderin’
And wonderin’ and wonderin’
When will my life begin?

Tomorrow night,
Lights will appear
Just like they do
on my birthday each year
What is it like
Out there where they glow?
Now that I’m older,
